Sewing Bee Finals

Sewing Bee Finals

The finalists have all sent in their entries. The challenge: Princess Seamed Bodice.

The brief this week was to use the Princess Seamed Bodice from Doll Dress Boutique as a base and design a garment or outfit around the bodice design. They were allowed to make many modifications and style changes, and that the emphasis of judging will be on the princess seams, overall theme and creativity. Sewing, style’s overall appearance, thread color, and the usual things given in the brief will also be considered.

They were told to design and create a show stopper. I think they achieved that! They are all beautiful and unique.

Here is Andee’s entry

“For my final submission, I created a Kwanzaa-inspired dress. I used the Princess-seamed pattern, using the doubled flat piping from View D and the sleeveless look and contrast hem of View A, along with the 2 fabric mix of View B.

I added to this look a ruffled underskirt, such as is paired with the Absolutely A-line dress pattern.

To finish off the look, I created a hair wrap to protect the doll’s natural curls.” -Andee

Here’s Diana’s entry.

“Nellie is visiting you today wearing a dark green dress with cream colored lace accented with dark green ribbon.

I usually leave the back open below the Velcro when I make doll clothes, for ease in dressing and undressing the dolls. To make a neat finish, I stitch the bodice and bodice lining right sides together down the center back, then turn and press. Then I hem stitch the center back edges of the skirt before stitching it to the bodice, so they can overlap neatly.” -Diana

Here is Janet’s entry.

“In preparing and sewing this final entry, I was inspired by all of the Christmas programs and recitals I have been involved in over the years. I sewed this lovely blue dress with a cotton print with gold accents. I paired it with a matching gold satin type material and a tiny bit of music printed material. To complete my recital dress, I added little black ribbon bows.

I used the princess seamed dress view D as my main base but shortened the skirt and added a gold satin ruffle. Ultimately, I felt that anything more would have been too much. The pattern and materials speak for themselves.” -Janet

Aren’t these fantastic!? Which one is your favorite?

Stop back by on Friday when the winner will be announced. Until then, Happy Stitching!
