Sew in Style Sewing Camp
Naomi sent in a photo this afternoon, after sewing up a skirt for her doll. Naomi used the “Simple Mini Skirt” pattern (page 38) from her copy of Sew in Style. She used a fat quarter of this pretty striped fabric.
Naomi expressed that it was hard to keep the sewing straight, especially with 1/4 inch seam allowance. The 1/4 inch seam allowance is really small. It helps to have a special presser foot, called a 1/4 inch presser foot, which allows you to keep the fabric along the edge of the presser foot while you sew, to help guide your fabric on a 1/4 inch seam allowance as you sew. Sometimes this special presser foot is called a “quilting presser foot” or a “piecing presser foot,” because they are often used by quilters who sew with a 1/4 inch seam allowance all the time.
I use a 1/4 inch presser foot when I sew my doll clothes. It makes things easier. You can see a picture of the 1/4 inch presser foot on page 11 of your Sew in Style book, as it is one of the supplies that I recommend. The one shown on page 11 has a guide that makes it even easier to sew that small 1/4 inch seam allowance!
Here is Naomi’s skirt on her doll. It looks super!! I bet your doll loves her new skirt 🙂 Thank you so much for sending in your pictures!
