Flipping Out Review

Flipping Out Review

I picked up this pattern at Quilt Market a while back and love the idea of it. I made it recently to give as a gift to a dear person who crochets.

“Flipping Out” pattern by Annie.

I read through the instructions before starting. To see how everything was going together and in what order. I made a couple modifications and am overall happy with it, but I warn you that it takes a bit of work.

I love the interior pockets. I did stretch the fold-over-elastic when sewing the mesh pockets. That wasn’t in the instructions, but a bit of negative ease will help crochet tools stay upright when “flipped out” and using as a stand.

I didn’t care for the look of the zipper after it was inserted. It seems unfinished, but hand sewing a ribbon on it would have been difficult (I tried), with the firm stabilizer that is placed on the lining. In the end, I just left it as directed in the instructions. It’s not bad, but be mindful that one edge of the zipper tape is left expossed.

The bottom is what had me stewing over. I thought about directly attaching the base to the bag, but instead followed the instructions. I did hand sew the 2 together which took some doing. I just really didn’t like the look of the pattern examples that used a machine to sew the 2 together.

Forgot to take more photos as I made it. When all said and done, the recipient really liked it, and that’s what matters really.
