Mini Log Cabin Free Pattern

Mini Log Cabin Free Pattern

A free quilt pattern for you! Mini Log Cabin quilts can be so much fun and can create several patterns with a turn of the block. Here are 2 mini quilts that I’ve made using Pattern Flex, as foundation for foundation piecing.

Look at those accurate seams!

Pattern flex makes foundation piecing so much more fun.

It’s easy to see through, so aligning the fabrics is much easier. Pattern Flex does not need to be removed, so no more hours of tearing and removing paper from your blocks.

I donated this quilt along with the bedroom set, which included my hand painted bed, to a Children’s Auction Fund that raised money for children’s charities this summer.

Then I saw this collection of fabrics, which screamed rainbow quilt. The collection is Love, Lily by April Rosenthal for Moda fabrics. Here is my Rainbow Connection log cabin quilt, which is included in the free quilt pattern.

I did not remove any PatternFlex, and washed the quilts normally without any issues. The Pattern Flex did not make it overly stiff–in fact I could not tell a difference in the quilt at all. I’m super happy with the results.

I did successfully remove the pattern flex from a test block. It tears easily, and I use it to stabilize tiny shoulder seams or when sewing knits, so save those scraps!

Another great thing about using Pattern Flex for foundation piecing is when you do make a mistake and have to remove stitching, Pattern Flex does NOT fall apart like paper foundation piecing does.

You can purchase Pattern Flex from C&T Publishing here. It’s also available on Amazon and in quilt shops.

If you’ve never made log cabin blocks, or have not tried foundation piecing log cabin blocks before, I highly recommend it. The finished logs on this block measure 1/2″ wide, and foundation piecing made it so easy to be accurate and get great results.

My pattern has a complete photo tutorial of the block construction. You can find the pattern and template here for free download.

Happy Sewing!
