Week 6 Results
The results were emailed to the competitors last week, but I forgot to post them here. So busy around here, with getting ready for my live teaching event on Saturday (Handmade Holiday Bazaar on Creative Spark online learning platform), my son’s college soccer playoffs, and family life.
Week 6
Everyone did amazingly well. I hope everyone had fun with the creative challenge. Dana and I both really enjoyed seeing all the fun characters and wonderful details, as well as great sewing. It’s clear a lot of thought and energy went into their makes this week.
Again, this week was really hard to make the decisions. There were several in the running for GOTW this week.
As mentioned in each week’s brief, the emphasis of the judging is on the challenge: the focus of the challenge or challenge technique. We then look at execution: craftsmanship and overall look.
As we go through each design, we look to see if all the boxes are ticked: challenge brief met, overall design looks good, the details of the sewing: pressing, matching threads, fabric choices, scale, etc. We also take into consideration the complexity of the project.
Each week, we narrow it down at the top and the bottom, then we take a short break. We come back together with fresh eyes and take another look, discussing all the elements again: brief, craftsmanship, complexity, and go through all the fine details to make the final decisions.
As we discuss the designs, each of us will point out what we notice, what we appreciate, and all the little things. This process takes a while, but we know these projects took a lot of time and thought, and want to be thoughtful and objective. We weigh all the judging criteria to ultimately decide.
Anyway, I thought I would share more about the process that we go through when making the decisions each week. This week before our break, we again said to each other, this is really hard. All the designs are beautiful. It’s definitely a balancing act with weighing all the criteria and creative details.
This week, we needed to take an additional break to decide, as there were several that not only were spot on with their character designs, but were also very creative and sewn very well.
The winner of the Garment of the Week this week is Andee. Congratulations!
For the unpleasant decision, as this is a competition, we have to choose a person to leave each week. This week the person leaving the competition is Angie.
We are sorry to see you leave, as your sewing is inspiring and we really loved all your designs. Thank you for taking part in the Sewing Bee.
Week 7 entries will be posted in the next few days. Good luck to everyone!
