Week 5 Entries
Week 5 the competitors were given a technical sewing challenge: Stripes and Plaids. They were provided with a pattern, Fifties Sundress, to work with and no modifications were allowed. In addition, they were asked to make a knot bow accessory to go with their dress, also provided to them.
Here is the pattern they had to use, a Bonus Design I created for Doll Days! The challengers were instructed to sew all the embellishments as designed in the pattern, with no modifications.
They were allowed to choose their fabric and colors. Some chose the more difficult plaid with which to work with. They were required to send photos showing all the places on the garment that have the stripes matched: side seams, center back, bodice, as well as the skirt hem and waist. All the dresses look amazing!!
Stripes and plaids can be challenging to match up visually on a garment. It irks me every time I see mass produced clothes in the shops with stripes and plaids not lined up properly, which seems to have become the standard in ready to wear. You have to buy higher quality brands to find it done properly.
Well, again this week, the entries are extremely impressive!! They all did a wonderful job matching the stripes at the key points, like the center back and side seams.
Here are the entries for week 5.
Unfortunately, Claire has decided that she could no longer participate for personal reasons, which I completely understand. We will really miss seeing her beautiful creations in the competition and we wish her all the best.
Pop back by tomorrow for the results, as we will make our final decisions on who is maker of the Garment of the Week and who will be leaving this week, which is always, always the more difficult decision to make. These dresses are all winners for sure!
