Spring

Spring

So some may have noticed that I’ve been taking a short break from sewing business or at least scaled back. My machine needed an expensive repair and I decided to buy a machine. I didn’t sew much while looking for a machine, and now I’m learning to use it. Right now I’ve been making a sewing machine cover, using these adorable bunny blocks designed by Nadra Ridgeway (Ellis and Higgs on Etsy).

I had some happy sewing vicariously through a former student. Isn’t that great!? She’s making a quilt and helping her friend to make one, too. It’s been so fun helping them and seeing their progress. They had a design they wanted to do and they are doing such a fabulous job, cutting out the fabric, piecing, and trouble shooting machine hiccups.

Here are the fabrics they’ve chosen.

These are some of the progress they’ve made.

Aren’t they doing amazing!!?!

I’ve also been doing some work on our yard. It’s pretty large compared to yards we’ve had in the past. I wanted to try doing native plants, so decided on doing a seed mix of wildflowers and grow a pollinator garden.

I’m attempting to use a cold stratification method for the seeds to be planted in spring. My husband and I have been working to grade the ground properly and remove the plastic landscaping barrier that’s been buried there for decades, probably.

The ground’s ready now and the seeds are getting scattered this weekend, now I think the last snow/frost has past. (We had some snow the other day.) After the next spell of rain has past we’ll be making a dog play area, or should I say garden safe from dog area?

Hope you have an amazing day!
