Spring Design Challenge
It’s time for another doll dress design challenge over at the Avery Lane Sewing group on facebook. This time we are encouraging upcycling, repurposing and making something new from something old, sewing with some cute doll clothes patterns.
Spring showers make some pretty flowers… Or in our case, reclaimed fabric and trims make some pretty doll dresses 🙂
Our generous sponsor, Margie from Too Cute Doll Design magazine, has donated some lovely prizes! (scroll down to see exact prize details) If you haven’t heard of Too Cute Doll Designs, it’s a magazine that comes to you once every season. It’s inspiring and full of great information about creating for dolls and includes several full size patterns to sew! Visit their shop on Etsy: Too Cute Doll Design
Rules are not strict…just use some fabric from another garment or item, cut it up or take the stitches out, and use it to sew a doll dress using one of the 3 patterns:
Avery Lane Ella Pattern
Avery Lane Little Miss Storybook Pattern
Modern-Vintage Sundress Pattern
(can be found in the book Doll Days! Sew an Everyday Wardrobe for 18″ Dolls)
The Modern-vintage Sundress and Little Miss Storybook have several different variations to choose from, including the bonus views like the Fifties Sundress pattern (join the Avery Lane Patterns Sewing Group on Facebook, post a photo of your copy of Doll Days to receive this free pattern 🙂 )
The PDF versions for Ella and Little Miss Storybook are available in the Avery Lane Etsy Shop.
The eBook version of Doll Days! is available on the CTPub.com website and the physical copy of Doll Days! is available everywhere sewing books are sold (like Joann’s and Amazon) and in the Avery Lane Etsy shop.
Here’s the fine print:
At least 50% of the the dress needs to be from upcycled materials. They can be all the same material or from several other items, such as some lace from a baby dress and fabric from a skirt.
Post photos on our facebook group between May 1 and May 27. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1531695323745834/)
Each pattern will be in its own group, for judging and prize awards.
One entry per person per Pattern Group.
One prize per person (Of course if you win first place with one pattern and 2nd with another, then you will win the year’s subscription and the 2nd place prize will go to the person with the next highest number of votes).
Judging will be based on:
- Most repurposed material
- Creativity of repurposed material
- Craftsmanship
- Overall design
We will vote for the top 3 designs in each group May 28-31
The top prize (1st place) in each pattern group will receive a year’s subscription to Too Cute Doll Designs*
The 2nd and 3rd place winners in each pattern group will win a free issue of Too Cute Doll Designs ( their choice )*
