More Doll Sewing
Before I left for our trip, I made some accessories for Grace Thomas. I used patterns from the children’s sewing book, Sew in Style – Make Your Own Doll Clothes. There are 22 projects included in the book. Plus a few projects include how to make the project girl sized, so kids can match their dolls.
These 2 projects are perfect first sewing projects. They go together quickly and are so adorable.
First I made a drawstring backpack with the Paris Tossed Bicycle fabric by Timeless Treasures. It took me about 20 minutes from start to finish. These would make perfect party favors! The fabric is so cute!
If you look close you can see the little poodle riding in a basket of one of the bicycles–how fun is that!?!
Look how perfectly the pink in the Tossed Bicycle print matches Grace’s skirt 🙂
Next I made the messenger bag project (chapter 2) using this awesome Paris-themed chalkboard print from Timeless Treasures fabric. I used the Lacey Scroll in grey for the lining and strap. I love all the different pictures and texts. It was hard which to fussy-cut onto the flap of the bag.
Here’s the outfit from this post and the Messenger Bag on a Gotz doll at Pottery Barn Kids. We dressed the PBK dolls up for our Book and Craft event last weekend. It was super fun! and packed with kids. They brought their dolls and outfitted them with tutus and crowns that they made at our Sew in Style event. Here’s the tutorial for the project that I created and taught the kids at the events.
Hopefully, enough people will let Pottery Barn know that they would love to be able to buy Sew in Style at Pottery Barn Kids (hint, hint–fill out an online comment card and tell them!) They are trying to decide–let’s help them decide to carry my book! As several parents at the event said, it makes a great gift for kids! and the fairy costume makes a great craft activity for a birthday party 🙂
Aren’t the Gotz dolls from PBK pretty!? When you see them in person, you can really appreciate the high quality doll making of Gotz. The hair is absolutely gorgeous! My girls like to have more than one type (or brand) of doll for when they play or stage a doll scene. Makes things more interesting.
Right now I’m working on another project for Grace. It’s a bit more time consuming than the projects from Sew in Style. I can’t wait to share it with you….I’ll also be sharing all about our first visit to the American Girl Doll store and my daughter’s new Grace doll.
For today, we are playing catch up… you know…the after you get home from a trip stuff, like doing all that laundry and getting back into routines of homework and soccer stuff.
