Sewing for Grace Thomas!
I am feeling the Grace Thomas love lately, so I was thrilled when Timeless Treasures Fabrics sent me these Paris themed fabrics. [swoon!]
They are perfect for doll projects, don’t you think? Since I’m planning my trip to the San Francisco area for my kids’ spring break to visit relatives, my daughter and I are also planning a visit to the American Girl Doll store. We’ve never been to one and we’re super excited. I usually don’t get too excited about the Girl of the Year doll, but I am completely in love with Grace Thomas. I want to buy her while we’re there.
Of course, I thought I should make her some clothes, and of course, Paris themed clothes are her favorite. First I made the Flounce Skirt from the book, Sew in Style-Make Your Own Doll Clothes (page 44). This fabric is called Paris, color Pink (Paris-C2811) and it’s just lovely to work with. It has a pale pink with white polka dot background and Eiffel Towers scattered. The flounces are from the Noir collection, Lacey Scroll.
I used this bright, fun Paris themed print called “Paris Motifs” (Gail-C2792) in multi for a spring top, also from Sew in Style book for kids. I added stretch lace trim, as suggested in the book (page 84). Next time I won’t stretch the trim as much. It’s pulling up a little. The fabric is perfect with all the small scale pictures and words.
I can’t wait until I have my Grace Thomas Doll to model these. I am planning a few more Sew in Style projects to bring with me to the Make and Take/Book signing events in Monterey (Beverly’s), Palo Alto (Pottery Barn Kids), and Soquel (Beverly’s). [Full schedule at the end of this post] It should be a lot of fun. Even though my kids were born in Palo Alto and we lived there for quite some time, my kids have never been to the Monterey area. (we usually went to Santa Cruz or farther south) We’re looking forward to all the Cannery Row, Wharf, beach, giant Redwoods, and Aquarium activities. And of course a good cup of New England Clam Chowder with San Franciscan Sour Dough bread! Yum.
Oh and It’s Its. (if you don’t know what these San Franciscan treats are, look them up. It doesn’t get much better. When we go down, we usually buy like about 6 boxes or more, and the cashier looks at us like we’ve gone mad. But my husband and I grew up eating them and crave them something awful, since they are not available many places outside the bay area.)
If you are close to Santa Cruz and Monterey areas, I’ll be at Beverly’s Fabric Stores. For those in the Peninsula, I’ll be at the Pottery Barn Kids store at Stanford Shopping Center. I hope you’ll stop by and say hello. Or better yet, bring your daughter so she can make a fairy crown and tutu for her doll! Répondez s’il vous plaît (RSVP) to the stores 🙂
