Sew in Style Sewing Camp
Sewing camps start next week here and I’m really looking forward to them. It’s time to start the sewing camps here on my blog! It will be like a Sew and Share Camp. I will post photos sent in throughout the week from all the campers and I will be giving some fun prizes to a randomly selected camper at the end of each week 🙂 Sound fun!?!
Here’s how to join:
Sew from my new book for kids: Sew in Style – Make Your Own Doll Clothes. Available at local book shops and quilt shops, JoAnn Crafts, Amazon, Etsy, C&T web site, and a signed copy from right here on my blog.
You can sew any project you like!
Take a picture of your project or take a picture of your doll wearing your project.
Email that picture to me: Erin@AveryLaneSewing.com Please include this information in your email:
- Your first name and the first initial of your last name
- The state where you live
- The name of the project from the book that you sewed and are entering
For example: If I were sending a picture, I would include “Erin H from Oregon, Project: PJ Shorts”
That’s it 🙂
Remember: sewing is not about being perfect. Sewing is about having fun!
We would love to hear more about your choices that you made when sewing. For example: what fabric did you choose? why you chose that color? Is it your favorite color or you like that color on your doll? Did you Grandma help you sew your project? Was this your first sewing project?
Here’s what I will do when I receive entries:
I will post the photos that I receive each day, and each picture will receive a number for the week to be entered into the drawing.
At the end of each week, I will use Ramdom.org to randomly select a camper to receive a fun sewing related prize.
I will contact the winner and mail out the prize.
I’ll be tagging posts with “Sew in Style Sewing Camp” – so you can use the search box to see what everyone has been sewing and be inspired.
Here are some rules:
All campers must have a parent’s permission to participate.
The project must be a project from my book and made by you. (It’s more than okay to have help from a grown-up, such as a sewing camp at a quilt shop)
Campers must be younger than 18 years old.
Projects may be sewn by hand or sewn on a sewing machine.
Pictures are to be of dolls or projects only. I’d prefer that no people are in the picture please. I will crop pictures or will need to make sure it’s okay to post picture of person if necessary.
Kids from all over the world can join, but prizes will only be available to those who live in the US for shipping purposes. If a winning camper lives outside the US, then a pdf pattern will be offered instead of weekly prize.
Please use caution and safe sewing practices when sewing. Make sure you have your parents permission to use sewing equipment and iron.
Each entry must be of a unique project.
You can sew the same pattern twice for 2 entries, but you must use 2 different fabrics. For example: the picture above shows the Party Dress project from the Sew in Style book in 2 different fabrics. I could send two photos and label one “Party Dress in purple polka dot fabric” and tag the second picture with “Party Dress project in tiny floral fabric” for 2 entries in one week. If I were o send a third picture and label it “Ribbon and Bead Bracelet project” that would give me another entry for the bracelet I made and is shown in the picture above.
You may enter as many times throughout the week as you like. Each entry must have its own picture to be considered a separate entry in the drawing.
For example: One week I made the Flounce Skirt and Fitted Tee project. I would need to send in 2 pictures to count as 2 entries. Each picture can specify which project is your entry. Like this:
Email all submissions to Erin@AveryLaneSewing.com
Prizes will be mailed to US addresses only.
Camp week: Monday through Saturday (at Midnight Pacific time)
FAQ’s :
Q: What if I made the bracelet for myself and my doll? Does that count as 2 entries?
Answer: Yes! If you made the project 2 times and send in 2 pictures, then it counts as 2 entries the week you email the pictures to me. Remember, you can make the bracelet, headband, and backpack for yourself.
Q: I made a pillow for my pillowcase, using the instructions given in the book. Can that count as 2 entries?
Answer: Yes, it does! Just be sure to send 2 pictures (1 for each project and entry), explaining the pillow was made using the instruction from book (page 76).
Q: What if I made my project without a sewing machine. Can I still join the sewing camp and send in my picture for a prize?
Answer: Yes. You can sew all your entries by hand. When I was a kid, I learned to sew doll clothes by hand before I ever used a sewing machine. By hand or by machine–it’s all good!!
Q: What if I made something while attending a sewing class at a local fabric store? Can I enter that project?
Answer: Yes, of course. As long as you own a copy of my book and the project one from my book, you can send in a photo of your project and be entered in the prize drawing.
Q: My project didn’t turn out so good. Can I still enter it in the contest?
Answer: Yes. We all have times when our sewing projects don’t work out the way we planned. No sewing is really ever perfect either. Just take a quick photo of it and send it in. It’s about sewing and trying your best. Your entry will most likely encourage others to join.
And don’t worry, it’s just about practice. The more you practice, the better your sewing will get. No one is born knowing how to sew AND we’re all learning. I”m still learning new sewing tips all the time!
Q: What if my Grandma helped me sew my project?
Answer: That’s great! It’s always good to be with help. Whether it’s your mom, dad, grandma, aunt, or sewing teacher, help is okay. You just need to do most of the sewing yourself.
Any other questions? Need help sewing a project from the book? Please feel free to leave a comment with your question or email me.
To make sure everyone has time to purchase a book and get sewing, the first prize winner will be chosen Sunday July 6. If there are enough campers, I’ll choose 2 winners that week!
Happy Stitching!
