New! Hand Sewing for Kids, ages 6 and up

Learn to sew by hand and make a fun wool felt project.  $35 Materials fee includes everything your child needs to sew his or her project.

Fall Class:

Beginning Sewing, ages 8 and up

Learn to sew with a sewing machine, like how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin, sew with a seam allowance, and make a simple project. Students will complete a Seams and Samples Work Book that will teach them basic sewing skills needed to sew many beginning projects. We will complete at least 3 simple sewing projects together.

Sewing Club, Level 1 ages 8 and up

Prerequisite:Beginning Sewing Class. Students taking this class have just completed the Beginning Program and Student Workbook, and are ready to learn more.

Sewing Levels: Confident Beginner to Intermediate

Continuing students can join the Sewing Club. This class is designed for students who want to continue to develop their sewing skills. Students choose their sewing projects during class from wide range of projects.

Students who have already learned the basics and want to continue sewing can join this class. Students can choose from many beginning projects, including doll clothes, drawstring backpack, patchwork projects, journal covers, zippered bag projects, and more. To make sure we get sewing right away at the first meeting, kids need to choose 2 of the following projects: a journal cover, patchwork owl pillow, patchwork drawstring bag, pillowcase, zippered cross-body bag, coin purse, or a regular drawstring backpack and purchase a project kit or bring supplies to the first class. Parents also have the option to email the instructor to choose a different projects not listed and receive additional material lists prior to the week of camp. AveryLaneDesigns@comcast.net

Projects will be based on the student interests and skill levels.  We usually have 2 or 3 projects being sewn each class. Kids who have been in sewing club for several sessions may bring in pattern and supplies of their choice. Be sure to email me with any questions.

Sewing Club Level 2 , Accessories Sewing Class, ages 9 and up

Prerequisite: This is a class for students who know all the sewing basics very well and want to learn to sew clothes.

Sewing levels: Confident Beginner to Intermediate, and advanced students.

Been sewing for a while now and ready to sew more? Join the Level 2 class to sew accessories for yourself. Projects in this class may take longer than a single class to sew, but will help you build your sewing skills. Many new projects for this class. Choices include:  backpack, messenger bag, tie top tote, fold-up shopper tote, patchwork drawstring backpack, stand-up desk/vanity organizer, lunch bag, patchwork owl pillow, or a fun stuffed bunny made from knit fabric! To make sure we get sewing right away at the first meeting, kids need to choose at least 1 project and either bring supplies or purchase a kit at registration. Students can also purchase hardware and interfacing kits for their project, but must be ordered at time of registration.   AveryLaneDesigns@comcast.net

Sewing Club Level 2 , Clothing Sewing Class, ages 9 and up

Prerequisite: This is a class for students who know all the sewing basics very well and want to learn to sew clothes.

Sewing levels: Advanced Beginner to Intermediate and Advanced students

Been sewing for a while now and ready to sew more? Join the Level 2 class to sew clothing or an outfit for yourself. Projects in this class may take longer than a single class to sew, but will help you build your sewing skills. To make sure we get sewing right away at the first meeting, kids need to choose a project at least 1 week prior to class and email the instructor with choice. AveryLaneDesigns@comcast.net

Students may bring in store bought patterns or email measurements to the instructor for a pattern to use. Remember any fabric intended for clothing needs to be prewashed.

For a list of acceptable patterns and picture examples of the projects, please email the instructor. Please note: If choosing a knit project, “Cotton-Lycra” jersey knit will be the only acceptable knit. Choose at least 2 projects for the camp:

  • Short sleeve easy-fitting cotton top
  • Cotton-Lycra Jersey Knit dolman sleeve top
  • Shorts with pockets
  • Patchwork skirt
  • Skirt with pockets
  • PJ pants
  • Cotton-Lycra Knit Skirt
  • Chambray or linen pull-over hooded jacket
  • Flannel (or quilting cotton) robe

Sew for your Doll Class, ages 8 and up

Prerequisite: Beginning Sewing class.  Students taking this class must know how to thread their machine, wind a bobbin, know how to operate a sewing machine, and have sewn a simple project on their machine, such as a tote bag, pillowcase, or drawstring bag.

Sewing Levels: Confident Beginner to Intermediate

Come and sew for your 18″ dolls using the patterns from my book,  Sew in Style-Make Your Own Doll Clothes   (Signed copies available here )  and Avery Lane Patterns.  Intermediate and advanced students will have the choice of sewing from my new book, Doll Days! Sew an Everyday Wardrobe for 18 inch Dolls

 

Mini Quilt Camp

Come join our Quilting Class.  We’ll spend several afternoons sewing a small quilt as you learn the basic quilting skills, or improve your quilting skills. These small quilts make perfect doll quilts, mug rugs, snack place mats, or wall hanging /room decor.  They also make great gifts!

Enrolled students will contact me and choose the design that they would like to sew. Pictures of quilts can be seen on the sewing club project page (scroll to the bottom). Quilt kits are available.

Students must have basic sewing skills to enroll.

Prerequisite: Beginning Sewing class. Students taking this class must know how to thread their machine, wind a bobbin, know how to operate a sewing machine, and have sewn a simple projects on their machine, such as a tote bag, pillowcase, or drawstring bag.

Please note: no flannel, please.

*Machines are available for students to rent, for use during camps and group classes. The cost is $10-15 per session.
