AG Doll Tutorial: animal ears

AG Doll Tutorial: animal ears

I’m really excited to be back designing doll clothes sewing PDF patterns for my etsy shop. I’ve been taking my applique critters quilt and felt animal patterns,  and creating some fun animal dresses. So naturally, they need animal ears to go with them.

Here’s an easy felt craft that compliments my new Fiona Fox dress pattern for 18″ dolls, which will be released on Thursday. It also includes the Olive Otter Dress and Skunk dress variations. Honestly, the pattern is so versatile that it could easily be any animal, such as a cat, bunny, wolf, mouse, or skunk. The template page includes ears for all these other animals. Enjoy!

What you need:

  • 14″ of fold over elastic (FOE) per headband
  • scraps of wool felt
  • embroidery floss
  • hand sewing needle

Download (click here) and print the templates, without any scaling. As always, check the 1 inch test box to make sure you are printing the page at its correct size.

Use the templates to cut out the felt pieces for whichever animal you are making.

Sew the inner ear pieces to the outer ear pieces.

Wrap the ears, wrong sides together, around the FOE and sew in place, by stitching all the way around.

My wonder clips worked beautifully to keep the proper shape that will enable the ears to stand up.

Create the flat bottom, so the ears stand up more easily, like this:

Sew all the way around the ear, using a whipstitch.

Repeat for the second ear.

My ears are about 4″ from the ends of the FOE and about 1- 1 /4″ between them at the center. (for the otter ears in pink, I moved the ears apart for a different look.)

Tie the FOE ends together and adjust the ears as needed.

It’s that ridiculously easy!

Happy Halloween!
