I love making mugrugs–they are quite addicting! I think they make great gifts, with so many people sitting at their computers with a hot cup of tea. My kids like to have hot chocolate with a spoon while watching movies, so it works great for that, too.

Here’s a finished mugrug that I made for a friend for her birthday. The floral fabrics are from Dear Stella’s Flirt collection. I added a Dear Stella solid and a grey Polka Dot to give it some punch. Light Pink is an RJR solid.

Here are some mugrugs in progress. I was playing around with designs for the quilt classes for kids I have coming up. Small quilts are a perfect way to introduce kids and beginners to quilting. They can learn all the steps without any one step taking a long time. And as we all know, the more times you sew something, the better you get at it.

Everybody loves rainbows. Am I right?

The polka dots are from a Riley Blake jelly roll I bought at the Quilt Market.

This particular design was inspired by this project on Sew Fantastic Blog. I discovered it on pinterest, checked out her tutorial,  and thought with a little tweaking it could be a great project for sewing club and quilt class. I redesigned it to be smaller and little less complicated for kids to make. These projects are great for practicing straight seams and pressing, as well as controlling the speed of the machine.

Though I was practicing my stippling, the kids will be practicing their straight stitch quilting. I used a 3-step zigzag on its largest settings on 2 of the white borders, which is another option I like to offer the kids. Now I need to add some bindings.
